Message to our community
Today, we saw the news of the tragic death of Marcinene Herinck who volunteered with PACS since 2014. Marcine volunteered over 1,900 hours with PACS and helped customers in our Thrift Store. Marcine was loved by volunteers, staff members and many of our regular store customers. She brought wit, humor, an infectious smile, and a commanding presence of service. We join Marcine’s family and friends in grieving her death.
We know that violence is an ever-present reality in our society and that even those, like Marcine, who are committed to making the world a better place, are not immune from the random actions inflicted by the worst elements of humanity. It is at times like these that those who profess the Christian faith stand in shock and are tempted to doubt the goodness of God. Our cry goes out “Where are you, God?” However, the presence of evil cannot eclipse the goodness and mercy of God. God is the great Comforter and Physician who draws near to all in times of crisis. I am painfully aware that these words at this moment can ring hollow but it is ours to hold on through faith.
We believe that there will be times where we stand under the clouds of darkness and we can only wait in sorrow and amazement until the cloud passes over. In these dreadful hours, we must learn to trust, to depend solely upon God. Now is a time when we sit under the clouds of darkness but I am convinced that our faith in God can hold us up when we have no strength and the confidence that the light of Hope will shine again.
Our condolences go out to Marcine’s family. As we collectively grieve over her loss, let us draw near to each other and find our strength in God, prayer, and continued service.
In Him who we trust
